Servei de Control de Mosquits ›Introduction
Mosquito Control Service
The Mosquito Control Service (SCM) was created in 1983 by the Barcelona Metropolitan Corporation at the initiative of a group of municipalities in the Llobregat Delta to control mosquito populations in their municipal terms. In 1989, with the creation of the Baix Llobregat Council, the effective transfer of this Service to this Council took place. SCM Team 2023

The covered area is approximately 323 km2. In this area formed by the activity of the river Llobregat, there are industries, tourist, agricultural and natural areas that lead us to a very complex and specialized mosquito control. We operate on more than 1,500 breeding sites in rural and natural areas with about 400 ha and 70,000 gutters in urban areas.
Since 2005, the headquarters of the SCM has been in Can Comas, a farmhouse belonging to the Consell Comarcal located in el Prat de Llobregat. The control that is being carried out is based on integrated control methods that, although attaining maximum effectiveness, have a minimal impact on the environment and do not affect people's health. Nowadays, the control of mosquitoes involves environment arrangements, the biological fight using toxic natural bacteria to mosquito larvae and the dissemination of preventive measures that everyone must put into practice.
